Humans And Cats

Cats are pets that are common and most widely observed in Europe and North America. The population of cats around the world it is very difficult for certain, with estimates of between 200 million to 600 million.

In 1998 there were about 76 million cats living in Europe, 7 million in Japan and three million in Australia. A report in 2007 stated that about 37 million homes in the United States have a pet cat. In contrast, there are about 72 million dogs kept in that country. This proves that in the United States the number of cat-keeping more than dogs since 1985.

According to the Humane Society of the United States, in addition to the preserved, the cat is also used in the international fur trade. Cat fur used to be made into coats, gloves, hats, shoes, bedding and stuffed toys. To make one fur coat of a cat, it takes about 24 cats. This has now been banned in several countries, including the United States, Australia and the European Union. However, there are still some cat fur made into blankets in Switzerland as a traditional remedy believed to help cure rheumatic diseases. The cat has become a common thing to eat in the country of China and in some other Asian countries. It is estimated that in Guangdong Province, people's Republic of China can take cats in one day as many as 10 thousand. Organization of the Animal People have estimated that every year in Asia there are about 4 million cats are killed for consumption.

Due to the size of small cats, domesticated house cats may pose little physical danger in humans. However, in the United States the cat has raised about 400 thousand bites per year. A lot of the bite that comes from cats cause infection, and sometimes even can cause disease of rabies. The cat also can cause hazard on pregnant and immunosuppressive indivudu, because the cat droppings can pass toxoplasmosis. An allergic reaction to a cat's fur and/or saliva of cats is unusual. Humans who are allergic to animals is usually the symptoms in the form of fever, asthma, or inflammation of the skin.

In addition to risk on health, cats also can improve health and reduce the sense of stress. Keep the cat can also improve psychological health, that is capable of providing emotional support and eliminate feelings of depression, anxiety, and loneliness. There is one study that says that people who keep a cat can lower the risk of heart attack and stroke. (wikipedia.org)
